Remember when Instagram allowed you to see what your friends commented on or liked? It was a gross invasion of our privacy, but thankfully, Instagram did away with that a few years ago. Now the company has revisited the idea. According to a recent post by Instagram head Adam Mosseri, the platform is introducing a new feature for Reels that raises all kinds of questions regarding privacy.

According to Mosseri, this new Instagram feature will allow users to see Reels that their friends have liked or added notes to. This means that soon, you can see the Reels that your friends have watched and interacted with. Mosseri claims that this is because they want Instagram to be an interactive space where users can interact with their friends over “shared interests”.

This sounds incredibly dubious. At the moment there doesn’t appear to be a way to turn the feature off. This means that users concerned about their privacy will have to ensure they don’t interact with any posts unless they want it to be seen by their friends and family members.

At the moment the rollout isn’t available globally yet. The feature will only be available in a handful of countries, so if you don’t see it yet, it isn’t available in your region.
