Google Pixel 10a might not use the Tensor G5

Google will launch the Pixel 10a in 2026 if it keeps to its schedule. However, you might want to hold off on the excitement. There could be bad news regarding its chipset of choice. According to a recent report from Android Authority, the Pixel 10a might not use the Tensor G5 chipset and could end up using an older chipset.

In case you’re unfamiliar, the Tensor G5 is an upcoming chipset that is supposed to make its way into the Pixel 10. The G5 is interesting because rumors suggest it will be Google’s first truly custom chipset. The Tensor G4 and its predecessors are largely based on Samsung’s designs. They are also built on an older process.

The Tensor G5, on the other hand, is rumored to be built using TSMC’s more advanced 3nm process. In theory, this should unlock more power and numerous possibilities. So, it is disappointing for Google to skip the Tensor G5 for the Pixel 10a. The report claims Google has yet to make a decision. However, we can understand why they might choose to use the G4.

The G4 will be cheaper to make compared to the G5. This means that for devices like the Pixel 10a, which is meant to be a more affordable Pixel handset, going for an older but cheaper chipset could help lower costs.
