Google Announces Gemini Updates Alongside Samsung’s New Phones

Alongside the launch of Samsung’s new Galaxy S25 series devices, Google likewise announced major updates to its many AI features including Gemini and Circle to Search. Google and Samsung have long collaborated to bring many major Androud features to more devices, and with that in mind let’s check out what’s new this time around.

For Gemini, Galaxy S25 users will be able to instantly summon Google’s AI assistant via a long-press with the power button, and Gemini Extensions will add support for several Samsung apps including Reminder, Calendar, Notes and Clock. Gemini will also be able to chain actions – for example, a user can instruct Gemini to search for nearby restaurants, followed by writing a message draft in Google Messages.

Additionally, Users can now add media files and documents when conversing with Gemini Live, and Project Astra capabilities including screen sharing and live video streaming will be available for the Gemini mobile app.

For Circle to Search, Google is expanding AI Overviews for more searches including trending images, places, and unique objects to name a few. An interesting new addition is the integration of a generative AI snapshot which will include additional information and web links which will be easily accessible, and won’t require users to switch apps. Google will also add one-tap actions for phone numbers, web links and email addresses with Circle to Search.

Samsung’s Now Bar feature will also integrate smart space cards – for example, users can get sports updates about their favourite teams via Google directly on their lock screen, and you can even tap on cards to get even more in-depth info on Google Search.

For accessibility, the Galaxy S25 series will get LE Audio support for enhanced hearing aid connectivity with hands-free calling and personalized audio. Additionally, Braille display support via HID is coming to TalkBack 15 on Samsung Galaxy S25 devices, with a wider rollout planned in the future. TalkBack image descriptions on Samsung devices will use Gemini models for improved accuracy and descriptions in the coming weeks.
