TikTok briefly went offline ahead of its official ban over the weekend. TikTok wasn’t alone, as other ByteDance-owned apps, such as CapCut, were also affected. Those in the US who want an alternative to CapCut are in luck, as Instagram has announced its new editing app called Edits.

This is according to a recent post by Instagram head Adam Mosseri who said that its new Edits app is designed to rival that of CapCut. Mosseri acknowledges the uncertainty of the future of TikTok and other ByteDance apps and was quoted as saying, “There’s a lot going on right now, but no matter what happens, it’s our job to provide the best possible tools for creators.”

At its core, Edits is a video editing app, but Mosseri claims it can do so much more. For instance, some tabs will offer inspiration to users. Other sections of the app allow users to keep track of their ideas and share drafts. It can also provide insights into how videos perform after they’ve been uploaded.

It isn’t available if you are interested in checking out Edits. The app is available for pre-order where it is expected to go live on the 13th of March. In the meantime, TikTok’s service was restored after US President-elect Donald Trump stepped in. However, the service’s fate hangs in the balance. So if you’re unsure about the future of TikTok and CapCut, Edits could be a good alternative.
